DezMayorz Nigeria was with topflight cinematographer – Taru B Yinka. The following are excerpts from the conversation, transcribed by Dez Mayorz crew.
Excerpt : Can We meet you.
Am Odeyinka Mutairu AmaobI (Taru B Yinka) from Osun state, born and brought up in Town. Growing up in port Harcourt main town (creek road abuja estate.). You can call me Port Harcourt Yoruba first son….
I grew from the family where your future and your success is in your hands (Town). Where you have to work it out by yourself to succeed.
Am a graduate of University of Port Harcourt even though i have to do alot of jobs just to meet up school fees. I was not born with Silver Spoon, but I created my Silver Spoon myself.
I love Entertainment and Media works, started with Eko Productions (my boss) in Abuja Estate where I learnt cinematography. Working with him was a great pleasure. Also get to worked with Sambaz, GINI TV, Charles bull (360 Entertainment) and many others really brought out the best in me.

Excerpt: How did your brand “Taru B Yinka and Taru Film” came about ?.
After learning from my boss Eko Productions, I formed and build mine – Taru Records. Taru Records majorly we are into wedding documentary, photo and video production, cinematography. Also music video production .
I have worked with so many music artistes here in Port Harcourt. The likes of Young kaze, funky brodaz (now ivoltage), lyrical prince, Big Star, Mr Flamboyant (Schidi), Rev Father Chimaobi, Tareal, D block, Davie King, 1qube too many to mention.
Excerpt : You use inspirational quotes and write ups always, what motivates you on that ?
I don’t copy those quotes from papers or anywhere. The quotes came from me based on my life experience. I have been patient from the beginning, even now….. So my quotes come as a result of my life experience and life story.
Excerpt : Have you ever taught outside the box?
Our jobs required it everytime. Comprehensively and concise planning is necessary. Unlike Lagos, Port Harcourt don’t have much locations, gallery. Most times Locations don’t rhyme with script. So I think outside the boss to get the best with available resources and location. It’s my job.
Excerpt : All the pictures that come from you are beautiful. Does it mean you only snap beautiful people?
My camera only knows and caption fine girls, ladies and handsome men. Even if you are ugly, my camera will transform you. Every #OneShotWithataruB is Beautiful.
Excerpt : What is your relationship life like, are you romantic?
I am naturally romantic. I don’t talk about my financial status and relationship life to the public.
Forget about the look, this is not Yoruba demons, am naturally romantic. I am a perfect gentleman.

Excerpt :When will you get married?
Very soon, I do cover weddings alot, and sometimes I do have the feelings to married, I want to be on their shoes.
But I won’t jump into marriage now. I need to put things in place in my life and in my family. I will get married soon.
Excerpt : What can you say is the difference between Lagos and Port Harcourt Entertainment Industry?
Port Harcourt has the talents and Lagos have the market. Port Harcourt Entertainment is growing gradually but not rapidly.
It’s crystal clear that comedians, cinematographers, bloggers, others are doing pretty good. The music artistes and producers should pop up their games. They should be original and use Port Harcourt style and stop copying Lagos style. Duncan Mighty, Bukwild, others started with Port Harcourt style.

Excerpt : Is Port Harcourt Entertainment lucrative, can you make multi millions in the business.?
Yes of course. Have a content, grow your contents, promote it, later on you will smile to the banks. Make use of Adsense, YouTube adverts, iTunes and look for endorsement deals.
Excerpt : You have trained good number of people in cinematography and they are professionals now….?
When you light up candles with your candle that have light flame, it won’t diminish yours rather it will lighten up more, and more lumininous it will be.
I was trained free, so I do most of my training free. For those who want to learn within 2months, there is a fee to pay for it.
Training people give me joy and confidence.
Mobman, Uchfilm, Leofilm, S-momoh Imagery, Arock, DB sequence, Femody icon, BS charies many others are all beneficiaries of Taru Records training.
Excerpt : All your videos come with fresh contents and concepts….
I work with artistes ideas. It’s usually a team work. I don’t copy concepts from other videos, rather we create.
Even if it is million videos to shoot, all will have unique, different and new concept.
As a “proud camera boy
” I do team work alot. I involve all the needed departments to execute a job. Taru Records is 101% ready always. We can cover 20 different weddings, jobs in a day and still deliver effectively.
Excerpt : Who is your mentor?
Gini Tv (Gini Nigeria) is my mentor. I met him in the Rivers State Carniriv. I saw love and passion in what he does, so I decided to follow his footsteps and principles. I have worked together with him, I learn everyday and got encourage everytime I work with him.
Excerpt : What will be expected of you in the next five years?
Success, success, Success.
Five years is far.
Excerpt : What’s the difference between film making and music video?
Film making needs time, time consuming. It’s always a gigantic project unlike music video production.
Excerpt : Have you ever looked for job?
I used to have that mentality to look for job after school.
After I did some documentary for some big companies the likes of Total, Geoplex, iTech etc, I found out that my job can take me across the globe. So I stay focused on what am doing. Now I have gone to South Korea, Dubai for jobs and more are coming.
We are looking forward to be shooting outside the country always.

What do you have to tell people out there?
More better things are coming from Taru Records. We won’t fail you. My advice to everyone is to start doing something, don’t wait when a governor sponsor you before you start up something. Never give up, be patient, it’s a race, you will get there.
Put God first and work with God. People will talk you down but be focused.
