NEW CJN TO PERFORM FIRST FUNCTION SATURDAY

The new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed will tomorrow, Saturday 26 January constitute and swear in members of the National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals.

Justice Muhammad was sworn in as new CJN on Acting capacity today, Friday 25 January by President Buhari immediately after announcing the suspension of Walter Onnoghen.

While performing the swearing in of Tanko Muhammed, Buhari citing an order from the Code of Conduct Tribunal, justify his action.

The election petition tribunals will be expected to handle disagreements that may arise from the conduct of the elections which begin in three weeks.

Born on December 31, 1953 at Doguwa – Giade, a local government area in Bauchi State, Justice Muhammad attended Ahmadu Bello University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Law in 1980.

In 1984 and 1998, he obtained both master’s and doctorate degrees from the same university respectively.
