His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Enoch Atuboyedia JP, the bishop of Okrika Diocese, Church Of Nigerian Anglican Communication, and president of the Synod read the Bishop’s charge at the opening ceremony of the bishop; and reading of the Bishop’s charge which took place on Saturday 6th May at St. Peter’s Cathedral Okrika.
In his speech centered on the church’s policy and the 7th Synod, the bishop charged the Christian faithful to pray more and said the Synod will focus on prayers as he encouraged the Christian faithful, especially the Anglican Communion to pray fervently.
Below are the 10 powerful things he said;
1. A call for prayers.
The bishop said that this year synod will focus more on prayers.
2. Church leaders to be transparent with the church’s organization account.
3. Diocesan secretariat’s building projects.
He said this year synod will work towards having a befitting Diocesan Secretariat building.
4. Diocesan scholarship and skills acquisition scheme.
“The church has been involved in scholarship schemes and currently training students in various tertiary institutions and their fees are fully paid by the Diocese.
The Diocese has trained 269 people on various skills acquisition, free of charge.” – The Bishop noted.
5. Demand for a better Health care delivery system and educational system from the government.
“We are coming up with a medical scheme, where every clergyman goes for annual routine medical check-up, fully paid by the Diocese.” – he said.
6. Housing scheme for all workers, both administrative and clerical staff will be constructed.
7. Inventory of the church properties to be taken seriously across the parishes.
8. Anglican Church priests are to be submitting their sermon notes to the bishop.
9. Diocesan Guild of Stewards.
The bishop mandated the church to organize a special service of appreciation for Stewards Guild Members that have attained 70 years and above. His Lordship said members more than 70 years old will no longer serve, to involve the youth more.
10. The Okrika Diocesan Bishop joined the Primate of Nigeria (Most Revd Henry C. Ndubuka) to make demands from the government of Nigeria at different levels.
The church demands that the government should put a high priority on the security of the lives and properties of citizens, and says the security of the lives of citizens will foster economic growth.
The 2nd session of the 7th Synod of the Diocese of Diocese of Okrika – Church of Nigeria: Anglican Communion continues till 7th May with the theme; “We Wrestle Not.”
