The Rivers State Government and the entire people of Rivers State and beyond gave a befitting burial to
His Royal Majesty, Late
Nyenwe-Eli Omunakwe Nyeche Nsirim (MON),
Paramount Ruler and Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The 3 days of funeral activities (Thursday to Saturday ) were attended by the top government officials including; the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Ebonyi State governor Dave Umahi, former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili and his wife, Rivers State governor-elect, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, LGA chairmen, top government dignitaries, traditional rulers, Family members, friends, and well-wishers.
Governor Wike, during the variety night on Thursday, emotionally said the monarch was one of those who against all odds identified with his political aspiration when he first vied for the office of the Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in 1999.
“I am emotionally touched because he supported me in 1999, when nobody thought anybody from my community will be something. He stood firm for me to be chairman of Obio-Akpor. I had nobody, but he stood firm and I became chairman. And that is how I grew to be where I am today.”
He therefore, urged the monarch’s children to emulate his virtues in recognition of his life-long work to better the lives of his people.
Nyenwe-Eli was laid to rest in his home Palace at 96.
