Warlike Scene In Imo State, As Unknown Gunmen Killed 7 In Imo State.
Unknown gunmen have killed the President-General of Mmahu autonomous community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo state, Charles Mgaraho.
Apart from killing the President General, the hoodlums also killed six other leaders of the community.
An indigene of the community, Gift Ihejirika, who disclosed this to our correspondent, said that the killings occured on Tuesday morning.
Apart from the President General, the six other community leaders who were murdered were, Edeme Okoro, Issac Ojenna, Anene Funky, Chasity Paulinus, Ndubuisi Nwabuishi and Ifeyirinwoke Junior.
Another community source told our corespondent that the attackers invaded the houses of their targets and killed them one after the other.
Dez Mayorz Media correspondent gathered that after killing the seven community leaders, the gunmen fled.
One of the sources said, “We are still in a state of confusion. We aren’t yet to understand what really happened. The hoodlums stormed our community and invaded the homes of prominent leaders of our community, killed seven of them, including the president general.
“It was like a warlike situation yesterday. They shot indiscriminately, killed their targets, seven of them before zooming off. The incident had been reported at the police and their bodies removed.”
The bandit is said to be one of the escapees of Imo Correctional Centre.
According to another source, he stormed the community from a nearby bush and started shooting sporadically killing eight people in the process.
The President of Egbema Community, who introduced himself as Romano, said the bandit who hails from the community, had since escaped from the prison.
“Since he escaped from the prison he has been terrorizing the entire community,” he said.
He said that when the community could no longer bear his atrocities they invited the security operatives to assist in arresting him but they could not track him.
According to him, has thrown the entire community into mourning and panic.
The Youth President said the bandit had killed three persons and escaped into the bush for fear of being apprehended by security operatives before the latest incident.
“He started killing since last week. If he kills he would ran into the bush,” he disclosed.
Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abatham said that the command “is aware of the incident.”
