The Executive Chairman Of Ahoada West Local Government Area Of Rivers State, Hon. (Evang.) Hope O. Ikiriko CNA., FNES, team of Security Personnel and Illegal bunkering Task-Force on 19th January 2022 uncovered illegal refined crude product sites following a surveillance and intelligence reports on the war against oil bunkering activities that has resulted to the visible SOOT in Rivers State that has polluted the Air.
Speaking when he led the security operatives and the Task-Force Team to the sites of the illegal refinery, the Chairman stated that the activities of illegal bunkerers have brought health hazards and economic damages to the people of Ahoada West and Rivers State in general.
The Executive Chairman thanked the Executive Governor of Rivers State; His Excellency Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON GSSRS, for championing the fight against the spread of the very hazardous black soot, which is majorly caused by illegal bunkering activities in the State. He however vowed to maintain the steps taken by the Governor; and not to spare anyone involved in the illegal activity no matter how highly placed.
This is also, in furtherance to his campaign against this black soot menace since 2018.
He called for the support and cooperation of Community stakeholders, especially in the area of information gathering. Stressing that government does not work with hearsay but with very reliable and verifiable information.
According to the Chairman: “Any perpetrator caught will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly as the Governor has directed”.
He observed that this kind of business was never seen in the Local Government Area but the story is now different, he therefore encouraged the youths to desist from every act of bunkering and pipeline vandalization.
The Executive Chairman who also doubles as the Chairman on anti bunkering activities Task-Force, carried out the exercise with the heads of Divisional Police Akinima Division, Joint Task-Force Akinima, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), SSS, Nigerian Safety Corps, Vigilanty Group of Nigeria, Neighbourhood Watch Safety Corps and other security agencies.
Areas visited were, Ula-Okobo, Oshika, Akala Olu, Akiogbologbo, Okarki, Okparaki communities etc.
