HON. SIR ALLWELL IHUNDA’S METICULOUS AND TIMELY IMPLEMENTATION OF HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISES IS AN ELOQUENT INDICATOR OF HIS INTEGRITY AND ADEQUATE PREPAREDNESS FOR THE PORT HARCOURT CITY MAYORAL TASK.

Barely 3 months of his administration, Hon. Sir Allwell Ihunda JP., Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area has proven to be a man who would rather break precedence than break his promises; this he has done by scoring high points in critical areas of his people oriented (first of its kind) campaign promises; basically in Human Capital Building / Job Creation, Security and Environmental Sanitation.
This early record breaking achievements of Sir Allwell were preceded by the prompt constitution of his principal officers, supervisors and advisers, and other statutory and important committees with men and women of impeccable qualifications, for effective governance.
IN HUMAN CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT / JOB CREATION:
It is the believe of Sir Allwell led administration that the continuous prosperity in the economy of our dear Rivers State can only be assured by the development of skills and knowledge of our citizens, hence the quick kick off of the pilot scheme of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Programme and orientation of beneficiaries on the 12th of August, 2021 with 200 beneficiaries from across the 20 Wards that make up the Local Government Area.
During the kick off, Sir Allwell said, “because it is the skills you acquire through difficulties that will give you the desired result, the beneficiaries of the programme will not be given transport money to their different training centers, but graduands of the programme will be given starter packs that will enable them start up businesses with what they have learnt, and be employable as well as employers of labour”.
It is noteworthy that the trainers for the first phase of the programme were chosen after a painstaking assessment of their teaching experiences and learning environments by Arthurson Business Support Services Ltd., a notable consultant. The different skills considered include: catering and confectionery, ICT, facial make-up, photography, gele craft, hat and fascinator making, cosmetology, hair dressing, fashion designing and manicure and pedicure. While subsequent programmes will accommodate more technical training. Before the expiration of the tenure of Sir Allwell, the programme would have trained and empowered 5000 (five thousand) youths and women of the Local Government.
SECURITY:
From his first day in office, Sir Allwell Ihunda started interfacing with heads of security agencies, vigilantee groups and other security organisations within the State metropolis, all in a bid to strike a synergy and complement the Rivers State Government’s effort in collaborating with security agencies to forestall security breach.
Interestingly, these moves paid off when the collaborative efforts of the Port Harcourt City Local Government and the Police compelled hoodlums who robbed computer sellers at the Ogbunabali axis of the City to return most of the robbed computer accessories; this was achieved after Sir Allwell promptly met with the affected traders and assured them that there will be no repeat of such incidence, and that his administration has zero tolerance for criminality of any guise.
It is also important to note that the security situation of Port Harcourt has significantly improved since his emergence as Mayor.
ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION:
To Sir Allwell Ihunda, environmental sanitation is a physical measure that increases human life span than any kind of drug or surgery, thus his administration has made visible achievements in this sector, through collaborative efforts with the Rivers State Government. Some of the achievements are:
1. Allying with motor park and market unions across the LGA to ensure daily sanitation of their surroundings and environment.
2. Street to street public awareness on the need and importance of a clean environment.
3. Evacuation of refuse that were indiscriminately dumped opposite the Abali Park and the discontinuation of such an act that has been an eyesore to motorists and passers-by for several years.
The administration of Sir Allwell has plans to forestall the sabotaging activities of scavengers at dump sites, the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by citizens at unapproved sites, dumping of refuse at approved receptacles without bags and other acts of environmental degradation.
It is said that, “People with good intentions make promises, while people with good character and integrity keep them, and that explains the personality called Hon. Sir Allwell Ihunda JP.
Certainly, for residents of a capital city such as Port Harcourt where the State Government, under the very able leadership of Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike aka Mr. Quality Projects is embarking on the needed rapid urban renewal program and massive infrastructural revolution to enjoy the dividends of democracy from the 3rd tier of government, it requires a man with a seasoned administrative experience, enviable and sterling leadership qualities and a captivating character like Sir Allwell Ihunda.
