The President Is Significantly Bridging The Gap Between Federal Government And Communities – Barr. Chioma Nweze
– Commends President Tinubu’s interventions in the South East.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Community Engagement – South East, Barr. Chioma Nweze has commended the president for his infrastructural intervention and community engagement in the South East.
Speaking at the NTA’s ‘Good Morning Nigeria’ show that was monitored by Dez Mayorz News on Wednesday, Barrister. Chioma Nweze said the president’s Community Engagement Program and Development Commissions is proactively reintegrating the rural communities, bridging the gap between federal government and the community; and serve as a feed-back mechanism to the President and a sensitization process of informing the people of the government program and ensure the presidency reaches down the grassroots.
She added that the ‘Skill-up South East agenda’, an empowerment program for free tailoring/fashion training exercises, is at the top gear.
A program aims to unveil the fashion potential in Igbo-Land, with starter pack machines to be given to the graduands.
She noted that skills acquisition for artisans will also commence.
(She also launched a free medical program for communities in the South East).
She revealed that the South East is benefiting from the President’s student loan program.
“As of May 2025, NELFUND statistics show that N1.876 billion has been disbursed to 21 institutions in South East for 15,020 students, with the number of applications totaling 27,873 so far.” – Barr. Chioma Nweze.
Below are the Federal Government interventions in the various States in the Southeast.
1. Abia State:
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENTIONS IN ABIA STATE BETWEEN 2023 AND 2025
A. INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
1. Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ABSIIDP)
This project involves studies to assess the feasibility and design of infrastructure including Solid waste management and gully erosion control. It is a priority for both the State and Federal Governments. Approval date for the commencement of Phase 1 which has to do with rehabilitation of Roads in Aba and Umuahia was on 21st June 2023 while the expected date of completion is 30th April 2029.
2. Road Construction
The Rehabilitation of the Lokpanta to Abia Tower axis of the Port Harcourt- Enugu Expressway with a trailer park, 100 percent completed on May 6th 2023.
Rehabilitation of the Umuahia to Aba to Alaojii to Imo River axis of the Port Harcourt- Enugu Expressway which is 100 percent complete upto Ariaria junction and still ongoing from the Ariaria junction axis to Imo River and is expected to be inaugurated by December 2025
Rehabilitation of the Umuahia Ikwuano to Ikot Ekpene – Umudike Road is still ongoing with a 14.37 Billion Naira augumentation by the Federal Executive Council on February 3rd 2025.
Rehabilitation of Aba Owerri Road NNPC depot Expressway is captured in the 2025 Budget.
Rehabilitation of Ugwuele- Setraco Road in Uturu is captured in the 2025 budget.
Special repairs on Azumini-Abia State Boarder Road is captured in the 2025 budget.
B. General Hospitals
The Federal Government through the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs built a 100bed state of the art hospital in Obeaja, Ugwunabo LGA commissioned in July 4th 2024.
The Federal Government in collaboration with the State Government is building new General Hospitals in Okpualangwa, Umunneochi and Ukwa East LGAs.
C. Airport project
On the 18th day of December 2024, The Federal Government has upgraded the ongoing airport project in Abia state to an International Cargo Airport in partnership with the Abia State Government. The upgrade will support the state’s economic growth by facilitating cargo transportation. The project is primarily a Federal Government initiative with the state government contributing through runway upgrades.
D. Power
Rehabilitation/ Construction of ongoing Rural Electrification Scheme in Abia State through the National Rural Electrification Agency and the Deployment of mini grids for the development of smart Communities
E. Environment
The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Environment is undertaking the following projects in Abia State.
Community based solid waste management in Isuikwuato LGA. Captured in the 2025 budget
Flood control and Construction of Umuola-Umuelendu to Umuagu Road in Obingwa LGA captured in the 2025 budget.
Nchara Erosion and flood control works in Abam captured in the 2025 budget.
Erosion control works at Oloko St.Joseph Catholic Church Road Okeuzo Anuzi captured in the 2025 budget.
Erosion control works at Chief D.N Onyenweaku Road Umuaroko Azueke Ndume Ibeku Umuahia captured in the 2025 budget.
F. Social Programs
Through the Federal Ministry of Information and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement South East, Abia State Citizens have been sensitized to participate in and benefit from Programs like the Skill up South East, Student Loan Scheme- NELFUND, Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, Skill up Artisans Program (SUPA), SMEDAN, National Youth Talent Export Program (NATEP).
As at 26th day of June 2025, Credit Corp began disbursement of interest free consumer credit of upto two million naira to 20,000 market women in Abia State while working with executives of market unions to make the funds available to any identified member who applies for it.
As at May 13th 2025, Abia Indigenes are camped and undergoing a free 4 months intensive tailoring/fashion design training courtesy of the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement South-East(Barr. Chioma Nweze).
As at today, SMDAN has empowered about 300 artisans in Abia State, and offered 3.22 Million Naira grant to 14 women cooperative societies in Abia.
2. Anambra State:
Federal Government Intervention Projects in Anambra State under *Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President*
1. Total Rehabilitation of Onitsha/Oba Axis of Onitsha-Owerri Federal Highway.
2. NELFUND Program
Thousands of Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Nwafor Orizu College of Education are benefiting from Students Loan Program.
3. Massive increament in State and Local Governments allocations.

4. Social Welfare:
The National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), a federal government initiative, provides cash grants to vulnerable individuals in Anambra.
This program aims to alleviate poverty and improve the lives of marginalized citizens.
5. Agriculture:
Anambra State is actively involved in the Operation Farm to Feed campaign, which aims to enhance food security.
This program includes initiatives like introducing mechanized farming equipment, establishing Agricultural Transformation Centers, and creating Special Agro Processing Zones.
The Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program (ATASP), supported by the federal government, is also active in Anambra, working with farmer groups to improve agricultural practices and access to markets.
The Federal Government’s National Food Security Programme aims to ensure access, availability, and affordability of quality food for all Nigerians.
6. Infrastructure and Environment:
Anambra State is facing significant challenges with gully erosion, prompting the need for federal intervention.
The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), funded by the World Bank, has been working to rehabilitate gully-impacted areas.
Governor Soludo has also called for federal assistance in constructing dams and dredging major rivers to mitigate flooding.
The state is also seeking federal support to address the lack of integration into the national rail system and the Onitsha River Port.
7. Healthcare:
The federal government has invested in improving primary healthcare centers in Anambra through initiatives like the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
These interventions have boosted healthcare delivery in the state, but challenges like dilapidated infrastructure and manpower shortages remain.
3. Ebonyi State:

1. Construction of the trans-sahara road through Ohaozara Ebonyi State to Ogoja-Ikom Cross River State.

3. Construction of a massive bridge at Ndibe beach Afikpo.
4. Construction of Nenwe -Oduma, Enugu State road through Uburu -Okposi Ohaozara, Ebonyi State.

6. Energizing Education Programme has completed a 2.8MW Solar Power Plant at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo.

5. 4. Enugu State:
Federal Government Intervention Projects in Enugu State.
1. Construction of a dual standard bridge at New Artisan Enugu in replacement for the collapsed bridge. (Already commissioned)
2. Construction of a gigantic state of the art Flyover at Eke Obinagu Enugu.
3. Construction of a connecting Bridge at Umuhu, Eha-amufu in Isi-uzo LGA of Enugu state to make movement and economic activities easy.
4. Dualization of Enugu – Abakiliki express road currently ongoing.
5. Rehabilitation of 9th Mile-Enugu-Port Harcourt Dual Carriageway in Enugu/Abia States.
6. Rehabilitation Of Enugu-Port Harcourt Road Section III: Enugu-Lokpanta in Enugu state
7. Rehabilitation Of Outstanding Section Of Onitsha-Enugu Expressway: Amansea- Enugu State Border in Eugu State.
8. Completion of erosion control and road improvement projects in Ogui-Agu, Eke, and Umuoka communities within Udi LGA of Enugu State.
9. The Federal Government through the federal ministry of housing is currently developing 10,000 housing units in Enugu State, with a focus on affordability and private sector participation.
10. Distribution of 10000 professional kits to healthcare workers and distribution of relief materials to the less privilege in Enugu state by the First Lady of Nigeria.
11. NELFUND for tertiary institutions in Enugu State with University of Nigeria, Nsukka as the highest beneficiary in Southeast.
12. Skill-up South east Agenda with beneficiaries from Enugu state receiving training and will get starter pack upon completion.
5. Imo State:
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENTIONS PROJECTS IN IMO STATE UNDER PRESIDENT TINUBU REGIME
A. INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
– Construction of Owerri to Umuahia Road (59.2 km – 83 km)
– construction of Owerri to Orlu Road
– Construction of Owerri, Okigwe to Enugu Road
– Owerri to Port Harcourt Road (approximately 99 km):
– Approval of N25 billion for erosion control in Ideato Federal constituency
– Rehabilitation of Owerri-Onitsha Road
– Construction of Umunyeali Road
– Construction of Avu-Adapalm oil producing road in Imo state.
B. HEALTH SECTOR
1. Upgrading of 55 Selected Public Health Centers: A project funded by the Federal Government and World Bank to improve healthcare services in Imo State.
C. ENERGY AND POWER
1. Gas Infrastructure Project: A gas infrastructure project commissioned in Asaa, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, aimed at boosting economic growth and development, expected to create jobs and stimulate economic activity.
2. Rural Electrification Scheme
– Rehabilitation/Construction of ongoing Rural electrification scheme in Imo state through the National Rural Electrification Agency
D. SOCIAL PROGRAMS AND EMPOWERMENT
1. NALDA’s Agricultural Projects: A partnership between the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) and the Imo State Government to revive moribund industries, particularly the Songhai and Achulugo farms, creating at least 4,000 jobs for youths, expected to boost agricultural productivity and employment.
2. Federal Institutions are benefiting the tuition free through NELFUND
E. OTHER PROJECTS
1. N1.6 Trillion Infrastructure Funding: Disbursed by the Federal Government for infrastructure and security projects across Imo State, expected to improve infrastructure and enhance economic development.
