The Judge, Justice Lesi Wifa-Adedipe, hearing the ‘Human Rights Enforcement Case’ between Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited and Director of Tamsom Int’l Services Ltd, Mr. Ernest Omuso Ibiama, has recused himself from the case after the plaintiff lawyer, Mr. Lawrence Oko-Jaja noted that the judge was a Saipem lawyer before becoming a judge and should not handle the case due to conflict of interest, personal bias or prejudice that may arise.

Justice Wifa-Adedipe, in her ruling, graciously agreed to recuse herself, saying her court could not hear the matter and the case file would be returned to the Chief Judge to be reassigned to another judge.
Also the respondent didn’t oppose to the development either.

Speaking to Dez Mayorz News and other newsmen, the plaintiff Mr. Lawrence Oko-Jaja SAN, said his client Mr. Ernest Omuso Ibiama, Managing Director of Tamsom Int’l Services Ltd was incarcerated by Saipem Engineering Ltd unjustifiably without any reason logical or otherwise.

Oko-Jaja described the reason as ‘untenable’ and demanded a public apology and general damages.

“They held my client hostage and incarcerated from November 29th to 2nd of December 2024 in their premises at Aker Road.”

“He had a specialized contract with Saipem and they gave him accommodation within their premises and he signs out each time he goes out of the premises….”

“So when the contract was terminated, he attempted to go out and they refused, held him hostage until we consulted the police that facilitated his release.” – Oko-Jaja said.

The petitioner felt his fundamental rights had been bridged as a citizen of Nigeria, and demanded for damages for the consequences; if the court found out that what they did is against the constitution of Nigeria.
