Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Ọrẹh leads the Campaign against Drug/Substance Abuse in Rivers State_
The Campaign Against Drug/Substance Abuse began with One-on-One interactive sessions with the youths at Pleasure Park, Aba Road , Port Harcourt where data and relevant information were collected from affected persons and concerned members ọf the public.
The official Kick off /Press Conference was held at the Rivers State Ministry of Health under the directives ọf the Họnourable Commissioner For Health Dr. Adaeze Chidinna Ọrẹh, members ọf the State Committee on Drug and Substance Abuse Control were present.
The Rivers State Queen of Peace, Her Majesty Queen Tobechi Elendu and members of Media Colleagues Development Initiative highlighted the importance ọf the Campaign and the various activities scheduled to take place at Motor Parks, Street to Street and Schools across Port Harcourt and ObioAkpor.
The Hon. Commissioner represented by the Desk officer Rivers State Drug/Substance Abuse Control Committee Pharmacist Quanta Thorty Dappa informed the Press that the Honourable Commissioner recently sponsored 100 health workers and members of other agencies involved in the fight against Drug Abuse to undertake a training on Drug Abuse Prevention, Treatment and Care, facilitated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which is inline with the Ministry’s mandate.
She also revealed that His Excellency The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminilayi Fubara GSSRS, has graciously commenced the building of State of the Art Comprehensive Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Rumuigbo, as well as a second rehabilitation centre at the office of the State Command, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. She thanked the Governor for his proactive steps in prioritizing the health of the citizens and appreciated the effort of the Honourable Commissioner for her unflinching support in bringing the drug burden to the barest minimum.
She assured the Rivers Queen of Peace Project Organisers that the Rivers State Ministry of Health and State Drug Team will collaborate with them.
