President Bola Tinubu has expressed concern over the recent violence in Rivers State following the local government council election held last Saturday. He urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders, and their supporters to exercise restraint and adhere to the rule of law.

The President condemned reports of arson and explosions in the state, calling on all political actors to de-escalate tensions and discourage their supporters from engaging in violent or destructive activities. In response, President Tinubu directed the police to immediately restore peace and maintain law and order, with a specific focus on securing public institutions, including local government offices.

President Tinubu emphasized that government facilities, built with public resources, must be protected from vandalism, and reiterated that self-help has no place in a democracy. He reminded political leaders that the judiciary is equipped to handle any electoral disputes, and this election should be no exception.

About 5 persons have died, with various council secretariats burnt down.
