Drama in Bonny: Chiefs’ Council Threatens to Sanction Traditional Rulers Linked to APC Campaign
Unnecessary political division is rising in Bonny Kingdom as the Bonny Chiefs’ Council has moved to sanction some traditional rulers whose names were linked to the APC Campaign Council for the forthcoming 2025 Local Government Elections.
In a communiqué issued from the King Perekule Royal Palace and obtained by Dez Mayorz News, the council pointed fingers at Chief Adienyesigha John Philip Halliday, Chief Iganima Jack Manila-Pepple, and Chief Benjamin Adda-Allison, accusing them of political partisanship—a move seen as a direct violation of the customs of Bonny.
The council warned that unless the chiefs withdraw immediately from politics, they risk traditional sanctions, including suspension.
But the communiqué has already sparked backlash. Stephen Wobo blasted the council, alleging that it is anti-Wike and playing divisive politics.
He said the chiefs kept silent when others openly campaigned under Oko-Jumbo’s instructions in APP in previous elections, and urged them to focus on community development instead of targeting individuals.
Unlike others LGAs that are uniting for common goal, this development has deepened the political division in Bonny ahead of the 2025 LGA elections, where loyalty to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike continues to divide key stakeholders.
