– Said The Emergency Rule In Rivers State Runs Antithetical To Hallowed Profession As Legal Practitioners And Adjudicators

The Rivers State Chief Magistrate, Ejike King George Esq has voluntarily tender his resignation as the magistrate of the Judiciary of Rivers State.

He said the difficult and regrettable decision is informed largely by his discomfort with the recent appointment of a Sole Administrator in Rivers State to run the affairs of a modern State like Rivers State which he refers to as a ‘quasi-military administration’.

“Milord will agree with me that this type of governance system is not only alien but also runs antithetical to our hallowed profession as legal practitioners and adjudicators.

Having put in a whooping 16(sixteen) out of my 22(twenty-two) years of legal practice in this Judiciary as Magistrate under successive democratic administrations, I find it difficult to work with the current setting, as doing so would amount to a tacit and naïve acquiescence.” – Ejike King George Esq said.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State.

President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, March 18, to address the protracted political logjam between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly members, even after the Supreme Court’s pronouncement.

In proclaiming the six-month State of Emergency, President Tinubu said the state’s security situation and political tension necessitated his intervention to forestall a total breakdown of law and order.
