Foreign investors are avoiding Rivers State due to the ongoing unconstitutional declaration of emergency rule.
Except for those exploiting the situation for their selfish interest, businesses are suffering. No reputable investment will be committed to an environment where the President can, for political reasons, suspend elected government and democracy.
This has led to rising inflation and, a weak and vulnerable judicial system making the destination unattractive for investment.
This has gone beyond taking sides in the political rivalry between erstwhile Gov and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and incumbent Gov Siminalayi Fubara, it’s about destroying the values and virtues of the Rivers people.
The Nigerian Bar Association has moved its annual conference from Rivers State to Enugu, citing that the NBA cannot hold a conference in a state where unconstitutional governance exists and total dismantling of democratic structures. Such decisions deny the state economic opportunities as tourist attractions and a very bad image for the state. It implies that under this authoritarian rule, businesses can not survive.
Dez Mayorz News gathered that the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, on Thursday announced the change of the 2025 NBA Annual General Conference from Portharcourt to Enugu.
NBA said the change of venue, grew
stronger over time due to the emergency rule in Rivers State.
The overwhelming consensus of the NBA is that they could not proceed with the AGC in a state governed unconstitutionally by a Sole Administrator.
The NEC reaffirmed that the state of emergency declared in Rivers State violates
Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution. It further noted that the suspension of elected
officials and democratic institutions contravenes Sections 11 and 188 of the Constitution.
