Rivers State Protest: Take-It-Back Movement Demands Nigerian Police Protection On April 7
In a formal notification letter sent to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, TIB outlined key issues prompting the demonstration, including the repeal of the Cybersecurity Act, rising insecurity in the state, and worsening economic hardship.
The Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement has announced plans to hold a peaceful protest in Rivers State on April 7 to the state police command, which would focus on rejection of “numerous anti-people policies” by the government.
In a formal notification letter sent to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, TIB outlined key issues prompting the demonstration, including the repeal of the Cybersecurity Act, rising insecurity in the state, and worsening economic hardship.
In the letter signed by TIB’s State Coordinator, Amaniye King Amaniye, the General Secretary, Damiete Erekosima and the Publicity Secretary, Andy Akpotive, the organisers emphasised their commitment to maintaining order and ensuring that the protest remains lawful.
The TIB also requested security support to safeguard participants and maintain peace during the event.
They cited their constitutional right to freedom of expression and assembly, as enshrined in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The movement further stated that it is open to discussions with law enforcement authorities to ensure a smooth and safe demonstration.
The planned protest comes amid growing concerns over economic instability and insecurity in Rivers State, with many citizens calling for urgent government intervention.
The TIB urged all supporters and concerned residents to join the peaceful march as they push for policy reforms.
Authorities are yet to issue a formal response regarding the protest, but all eyes remain on Rivers State as April 7 approaches.
