A noticeable festival-like event was experienced in the Orogbum community, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, as the Late Mr. Gershon Ish-Lumati was laid to rest.
The Ish-Lumati family of Oro-kpotoma in Orogbum Rebisi, in-law from the Kalabari community, friends, and well-wishers all came to give last respect to the Late Mr. Gershon Ish-Lumati who died at 82.
Promise Ish-Lumati and Terry Ish-Lumati (Chiel Mourners) ensured the funeral was a huge success amidst the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria.

Mr. Gershon Odungoru Ish-Lumati was born on June 10, 1941, in Orogbum village, in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria, to Madam Anny
Lumati of the Oropotoma family in the Sele group of Houses in Orogbum Rebisi.
As the only child of his mother, Gershon took charge of his future from an early age.
He enrolled in the Nigeria Airforce Academy before the civil war erupted in
1967, where he fought on the Nigerian side.
In 1973, following the civil war, Gershon was among those selected and sponsored by the Nigerian Government for training in aircraft and aeronautical
maintenance at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
After completing his training in 1975, he decided to leave the Nigeria Airforce
and pursued a career in aviation maintenance as a private aircraft maintenance
consultant until his death.
Gershon attended California State University, Los Angeles.
Gershon also worked for several prominent aircraft and aerospace companies
in the United States, including:
Northrop Grumman Aircraft Company,
McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation,
Boeing Aircraft Corporation,
Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation,
Rockwell Aerospace Corporation,
He was a cheerful and kind-hearted individual dedicated to helping
others.
Known for his generosity, easy-going nature, generous spirit, and a keen interest in helping others.
Throughout his life, he maintained a lasting impression on everyone he met.
From a young age, Gershon exhibited
often remarked on his cheerful personality and his ability to make people feel attained a rare ability to connect with people of
all ages.
A lover of his cultural heritage, Gershon showed keen interest in wrestling as a
young man, becoming one of the most admired wrestlers in his village.
He was
also, a member of the Ohwue masquerade cultural dance group, known for its
artistic displays, including dancing with machetes to the delight of spectators
Gershon’s favorite pastimes included playing golf, watching basketball, listening to music, following current affairs, and spending time with friends and
family in Nigeria.
He traveled to Nigeria every year, usually during the Christmas and New Year festive season, spending at least four months each year with his loved ones, which truly showed where his heart was.
Death:
On Friday, March 15, 2024, an icon, was called home to eternal glory for
his next mission. ,
He will always be remembered for his wonderful
love, wisdom, and willingness to
advise all who cared to listen.
