Mgbuoshimi Community In Rivers State Lifts Blockade Protest At The Agip Gate
The leadership, Women, and Stakeholders of the Mgbuosimini Community in Rumueme kingdom have upon invitation met with the Management Team of the Rivers State Police Command in a tripartite meeting involving the Management of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd aimed at resolving the dispute between the Community and the Italian Oil Multinational resulting the three days blockade at the Commissioner of Police Conference room at the Command Headquarters, Rivers State.
Dez Mayorz gathered through Weli Gaddafi Nyeche, Acting Chairman Mgbuosimini Community Development Council MCDC that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers Mr. Olatunji Disu, and his team mediated to resolve the issues and urged parties to find a common ground to resolve the conflict.
The CP also appealed to the Mgbuosimini Community to reconsider the blockade to lift it as discussions continue between parties to resolve the contentious matters. The Mgbuoshimini Community leadership indeed suspended the blockade while urging the Management of Nigeria AGIP Oil Company NAOC to honor and respect the resolutions.
Subsequently, the meeting between the parties with the Rivers State government through the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs took place also took place.
Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd had petitioned the Rivers State government seeking their intervention following the protest cum blockade by Mgbuosimini Community. The meeting was presided by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.
The resolution arising from the Meeting which had Agip Management, Rivers State Police Command, and Mgbuosimini Stakeholders/ leadership was an agreement by all parties that Agip Management should invite Mgbuosimini Community Stakeholders for a meeting to resolve the issues and negotiate with them on their entitlements.
Agip in turn pledged to do the needful as they promised to take the resolutions to the Management for progress to be made.
Mgbuosimini Community commends the Commissioner of Police and Rivers State Government for their intervention and urges that the Management of NAOC facilitate the negotiations and interface meetings with Mgbuoshimini Community within the instant and immediate period.
The community is awaiting the immediate action of Agip Management to give effect to the resolutions. It hopes that NAOC Management does not renege on the agreement and directives by the Rivers State government to avert further actions by the Landlord Mgbuosimini Community.
Present at the meeting representing the Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd were Mrs. Mojisola Olorede, Stakeholders and Community Relations Divisions Manager, Mr. Gabriel Andrew the Security Manager, Mr. Etim Okpoyo the Community Relations Manager, and their Lawyer. Agip Management also committed and pledged to support and facilitate the resolution processes.
