4 Soldiers, 1 NSCDC Personnel, 8 Others Arrested For Hijacking Goods In Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested four serving personnel of the Nigerian Army and nine others for hijacking and diverting trailer-loads of goods in Rivers State.

Also arrested was a personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and eight other civilians who are members of a 13-man syndicate that specialises in hijacking and diversion of trailer-loads of goods.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement in Port Harcourt on Monday, gave the names of the soldiers as West Isaac, Abdul Musa, Mgbe Geoffrey and Innocent Okwoli.

Iringe-Koko also disclosed the identity of the NSCDC personnel as Jabila Kammangar, while their civilian collaborators are Olisa Emeka, George Obilor, Sampson Wilson, Alfred Abeke, Barry John, Auwalu Aliyu, Uchenna Nwali, and Alhaji Sofinu Haruna.

The statement reads in part: “Investigations by the Rivers State Police Command, following arrests for attempted burglary, have revealed a wide range of criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olatunji Disu, has expressed his profound appreciation for the swift and decisive cooperation of the military authorities.

Disu lauded their prompt actions in addressing the involved officers’ misconduct and subsequent handover to the police for prosecution.

The Police Commissioner, who emphasised that this collaborative effort underscores a strong commitment to upholding justice and maintaining public trust in law enforcement institutions, praised the officers involved in the arrest and urged them to remain vigilant.

Police listed their numerous crimes to include hijacking of a trailer loaded with fertiliser valued at N25 million belonging to Alhaji Sadiq Adams on February 17, 2024.

“On March 4, 2024, the group attempted to burgle warehouses owned by Emmanuel Nwagwu and Ndifreke Ekanem.
