TRAINING, A TOOL TO DRIVE- HOME ATTITUDINAL CHANGE AND ENHANCE CAPACITY BUILDING – GOC 6 DIVISION

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has affirmed that training remains a potent tool to drive-home attitudinal change and enhance capacity building in the Nigerian Army (NA).

Major General Abdussalam made the affirmation at the Lt Gen F Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks during the opening ceremony of the maiden Nigerian Army Education Corps’ (NAEC) First Quarter Divisional Conference 2024 with the theme “Repositioning Nigerian Army Command Schools Towards Enhanced Service Delivery.”

The GOC remarked that for success to be achieved in the discharge of assigned tasks, officers and men must be proactive and remain professional. He added that training and retraining is highly recommended, hence his command has prioritized training and described it as a potent tool that would effectively drive-home attitudinal change and enhance capacity building of personnel and teachers as well as students of NA Command Schools within 6 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR).

He further stated that the conference was both timely and very important as it serves as a vital conduit of knowledge, collaboration, and innovation, especially in a world where education constantly evolves. He maintained that the Conference will offer ample opportunity for educators to exchange ideas, learn from experts and get updated on the latest development in their field as well as articulate ways of improving on the level of discipline in the NA Command Schools.

In a related development, the Corps Commander Education, Major General Bello Tsoho who was represented by Major General Sani Ibrahim commended the ingenuity of the organizers of the Conference for ensuring well thought out topics to be discussed. He added that it is very apt considering the dangers and security challenges faced by schools lately.

Major General Tsoho also stated that the NAEC is keeping to its statutory mandate by processing historical repositioning of command schools for the benefits of the NA personnel and their families as well as host communities. He added that it is a collective and significant milestone designed to elevate the standard of education within schools to ensure that command schools remain the standard for academic excellence.

While delivering his welcome address, the Acting Director, 6 Division Education Services, Lt Col Abdulhameed Omeiza Yakubu welcomed and appreciated all for honoring the invitation. He further stated that training is the best form of welfare to anyone who wishes to improve, especially in the NA, even as it is captured in the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.

The conference had officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, paramilitary organisations, and soldiers in attendance. Others include traditional rulers and top government functionaries, including the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Sir Allwell Ihunda, and teachers of command secondary schools, which were also in attendance.
