– Endorsed the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Sir Allwell Ihunda for a second tenure.

– ⁠Ward 18 of the LGA wins the Mayor’s Cup competition.

The former Port Harcourt Federal lawmaker and leader of the PDP in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Hon. Ken Chikere has called on the press in Nigeria to be kind to the Rivers State people on the issues of the the ongoing political quagmire in the state.
Said the the state is not divided and will not be divided.

This he said while conferring a medal on the Mayor at the just concluded Sir Allwell Ihunda Mayor’s Cup Football competition in Port Harcourt LGA.

He urged the people to be prayerful and stop hitting the polity.

He went ahead to endorse the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Sir Allwell Ihunda for a second tenure, said the Mayor had performed beyond expectations on infrastructural developmental strives and human capacity development.

Said Sir Allwell Ihunda’s productive leadership is bringing the dividends of democracy to the people of Port Harcourt in various wards of the Local Government since his emergence as the Mayor of Port Harcourt on 17th June 2021.

His statement reads in part:
“What is happening in our state today, be very prayerful!
We have not divided.
We will not divide.
Young men should stop abusing elders because I pray you will be an elder tomorrow. Instead of protesting in the streets and hitting the polity unnecessarily, why not come out and be involved in a football competition like this and excel in it.”

“Let me commend everybody, the committee, the winners, officials, and players especially the Mayor of Port Harcourt who has performed exceedingly well.
It’s only God that confers office on anybody.

The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Sir Allwell Ihunda DSSRS JP said the yearly Mayor’s Cup football competition will now be a Mid-year competition (twice a year).
The Mayor said the football competition is part of the Christmas festive celebration which is aimed at exploring and identifying talented youth and projecting them to the world through sports.
He also promised to encourage the youth who have proven their competence in the competition to a greater height.

The Ward 18 in the Port Harcourt LGA emerged winner of the 2023 Sir Allwell Ihunda Mayor’s Cup with the prize of #1,000,000. They won the competition in a 4-1 penalty shootout.
Ward 5 finished second with a #750,000 prize, and Ward 19 finished third with the prize of #500,000.
The Mayor also compensated the 4th position team with #200,000.

Medals were conferred on the Port Harcourt Local Government leaders, outstanding players, and officials.

The football competition was a remarkable outing as the people of Port Harcourt are looking forward to the next edition.
