The Rivers State PDP gubernatorial candidate, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has made his developmental plans for women known to the Rivers people which is enshrined in his 37 paged manifesto.

The New Rivers Vision prioritized women’s development with deliberate policies and programmes. Governor Wike ensured the political elevation of women with elected and appointed public offices.
The Governor also promoted gender equality and outlawed the discrimination of women from inheriting their fathers’ property.
The government also provided women with grants to support their businesses. Much progress has been made in women’s participation in governance and empowerment.

However, the PDP gubernatorial candidate still has so much to do on his plans on gender equality and to strengthen the capacity of women to contribute to the social, economic, cultural and political progress of Rivers State.

He therefore plans to consolidate and continue the New Rivers Vision on women’s development and empowerment with the following policy measures:

Adopt a comprehensive Women’s Development to
address the multi-dimensional development challenges faced by the women of Rivers State;

Promote gender equality, enforce all laws outlawing harmful and discriminatory cultural and other practices against women, and provide women with equal opportunity for education and economic and social development;

Promote and protect women’s rights to bodily security and prevent all forms of violence against women, whether physical, sexual or psychological;

Provide access to reproductive healthcare, including pre and post-natal care, free caesarean sections for women, and routine immunizations against killer diseases;

Establish the Women’s Economic Development Fund to enhance women’s access to low-interest loans and investment grants to enable them to generate wealth and free themselves from poverty and economic dependency; and

Promote political inclusion and guarantee reasonable political and public sector appointments and opportunities for women.
