President Muhammadu Buhari has been scheduled to supervise the groundbreaking ceremony of the Northern Nigeria first oil drill in Bauchi and Gombe states on Tuesday.
The Kolmani Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site will be the first oil drilling in Northern Nigeria, following the discovery of oil in commercial volume in the region about two years ago.
Nigeria has always been with its rich crude oil deposit in the Southern Niger Delta region through which the country has remained one of the biggest crude oil exporting nations in the world.
This discovery and exploration of crude oil up north will be the first after an attempt in the Borno region was aborted by insecurity.
Recall that in 2016, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited launched a search for oil in some Northern states. The search led to the discovery of the oil in commercial quantities in Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Niger States.
