On Sunday 7th August, 2022, arsonists killed Okechukwu Nwonodi and burnt houses, including one belonging to a widow, as gunmen invaded Rundele community in the Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Reacting to the Dez Mayorz Media report, Eze Ogbuagu Great Owhor revealed that the late Nwonodi Okechukwu was murdered by illegal oil bunkery guys because of his Anti-bunkery campaign against oil bunkery in Rundele community as informant to DSS Anti-bunkery squad.

Eze Ogbuagu said Nwonodi was murdered because of his petition against family chiefs and major financier of the illegal bunkery activities in Emohua LGA.

He calls on Federal Government of Nigeria to come to the aid of the innocent citizens in the community who supported the Government in the fight against illegal oil bunkery activities to stop the economic sabotage against Federal Government of Nigeria.

Dez Mayorz Media gathered that before Nwonodi’s murder, DSS squad earlier arrested some illegal oil bunkerers and declare their leaders wanted.

It was learnt that the gunmen were angry that some of them engaged in illegal refining activities were arrested daily by security agents with the aid of informants within the community.

A group of them armed with guns and other instruments were said to have gone in search of those they termed informants and reportedly unleashed mayhem in the area.

A widow simply identified as Uche said she and her son managed to escape, lamenting that the miscreants had been unleashing havoc in the community for almost a fortnight.

Uche, a mother of eight, said the attackers broke into her residence, fired a shot, poured a substance suspected to be petrol inside the room, and set it on fire while her 22-year-old son was inside.

Police spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko is yet to respond to this report at the time of filing this report.
